SMA Paving Fibers

Made from approximately 90% recycled fibers, SMA fibers are blended into Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) mixtures to stabilize the high levels of bonding agent in these products. SMA is used for surfacing of new roads, and resurfacing of existing roads in many parts of the U.S. and other countries. The cellulose fibers in SMA mixtures allow for greater thermal expansion and contraction while resisting degradation. Other benefits include higher resistance to crumbling, rutting and pothole formation, as well as reduced road noise, a more consistent appearance and reduced water spray.
